My Secret World

Laraib Khatoon – June 20, 2020
Edited by Rabhia Shuja

Like a flow, my hands are sending the notes away and I can see the music coming out from the black giant. Don’t know my way around these black and white strips but my hands are carrying out the best show; the greatest show

My eyes are closed and I sway along with the pitter-patter of the rain that has sprinkled all over my window sill. Seems as if I and the rain are in a duet show. Me playing the piano and rain swaying alongside me.

I can see the music joining the dance of the raindrops. Woah! Here comes the air rushing both of them together, making a perfect trio; drizzle, breeze and the music.

I open my eyes to grasp the soothing sight. I can visualize them. But to the world, there is no rain, no piano and no window. And yet, I am whirling in the middle of my closed room.

The power of imagination, I whisper as my feet meet the ground of reality.

I smile to myself. I went into another world and it made me forget about my worries.

I close my eyes again, yearning to be in the same stance. I wonder to myself how easy it is to trick the brain. And it’s strange that it works best when you trick it. This time when I enter the world of imagination, I dance along; drizzle, breeze and me. I feel my soul nudging a note of gratitude my way.

Imagination is sometimes so powerful that It can make you a brand new person. You can control your panic attacks, you can treat your depression and you can do anything. Obviously it will not let you complete your assignments but it will surely help you feel relaxed.

Have you ever tried to close your eyes and tell yourself that it’s fine, it’s not a big deal? Have you ever pretended that you’re Einstein when you are stuck with a physics problem or imagined that you’re a Masterchef participant when you are just boiling an egg in your kitchen? Try that, imagine it for a while I guarantee you there will be a rush of confidence you will feel at that very instant.

If you don’t agree then let me give you a small exercise. Read this again while listening to this video.

My imagination is my secret world. I am what I want to be in my imagination. It’s my therapy, it’s my meditation. I am a queen in that world. A world that is ruled by me. I tune in to this world whenever I want consultancy when I want freedom when I want something that this world is unable to give me. It gives me the courage to move on and to fight back a little harder.

Not Married and Happily Fighting

My brother and I are not married and we have been happily fighting since 1997. I was born first, and I’m one year, two months, eight days, and 17.5 hours elder than him. But unfortunately, 7 inches shorter than him. We love each other. At least from my side, it’s a yes…

My Learning Challenges

Ever wondered how beautiful the word ‘learning’ is? It basically means that despite our age, gender, racial, religious or cultural background we could learn a new set of beliefs, behaviors, attitudes and skills. It also means that we could unlearn some of the previously learned set of beliefs, behaviors, attitudes and skills that do not serve us anymore.

Still, I have a question!

Benett says, “Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” I think this is relatable. But still, I have a question!
